The first curved smartphone: Samsung Galaxy Round
Samsung Galaxy Round is the first smartphone on the market with a curved display. We have seen television displays evolve from round to straight, flat screens. Now smartphones are giving it an opposite approach with the emerging curved 5.7-inch 1080 pixel screen. The Galaxy Round is the same size as the Galaxy Note 3 but the panel is curved horizontally, similar to a TV set.
There is a “Gravity Effect,” feature that produces visual interactions when the device is lying flat then tilted. The roll feature lets you check the date, time, and your missed calls when the display is still off.
The tilt feature also allows you to control things like music, pictures, and videos without having to pick the device up. This is a great component for people that have office jobs and sit at a desk all day. The roll device is a nifty feature, although by no means necessary.
The phone will run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor, with 32 GB or 64 GB of internal memory.
The Galaxy Round will also support a 13-megapizel rear-facing shooter and a 2 MP front-facing for using video chat.
The Galaxy Round is only being sold in Korea as for now, pricing and availability are not yet disclosed.
Here is a leaked image of what the Samsung Galaxy Round was expected to look like:
By the image, I assume this is only the beginning of curved smartphone displays. Looking ahead, this is a sign of greater things to come.
