‘OMG, You Will Hate Rihanna After Watching This Video!’ Scam Spreading on Facebook

A new scam is frolicking about Facebook, this time inviting users to view a video that will supposedly instill hatred for popular pop artist, Rihanna.

There are already a few variations of the spam message with different URLs being advertised, but you’ll know the scam when you see it.

Here are two examples:

OMG – I just hate RIHANNA after watching this video
ezreality.tk

you will lose all respect for RIHANNA after watching this

Another version reads:

WOW – You Will hate RIHANNA after watching this video!
ririscandal.info

you will lose all respect for RIHANNA after watching this

When a Facebook user clicks on the link, they’re taken to a page that appears to have an embedded video with a Facebook share button and comments from previous viewers.

If you click the play button, you will be asked forced into sharing it with all of your Facebook chums before being given access to the alleged Rihanna flick.

Much to the disappointment of the video-hungry user, you’ll be presented with nothing more than survey popups that promise to finally grant you access only after they’ve been completed.

Seems like a lot of work just to watch a video, huh?

Unfortunately, it’s not until after you fill out the online survey that you’ll realize that there simply is no video.

Scammers run scams similar to these on Facebook to lure people into completing online surveys, which they get paid a commission on. Other times they’ll promote fabricated stories such as these to infect the machines of unsuspecting users with nasty malware and viruses in order to steal personal information.

Keep your PC safe and free of malicious programs by exercising caution when following links that advertise celebrity gossip and outlandish videos and always run up-to-date antivirus software with real-time scanning and a personal firewall.

As of this writing, ririscandal.info has been blocked from sharing on Facebook and ezrealty.tk is no longer displaying the scam upon visit, but it’s only a matter of time before the scammer switches to another domain.
